Live action or Voice over

Howdy y'all, been a while (too much turkey).

So I was watching a documentary on some animated movie one day and the question came to me.  When it comes to making animated movies, would you rather choose an actor that knows how to do live action or have a voice over artist.

Most people think that a certain actor would be great for a certain character, but what I was thinking was Live action artists are good with showing emotion with their actions but not voice.

For example, Bruce Willis, awesome in Die Hard, but awful in Over the Hedge as that raccoon.  He didn't have that spark in his voice.

Same way for voice actors, not too good with live acting.

If you got an example, of some good live actors doing voice overs, send them in.

Hey I found an awesome way to make the sound of a pig. Try it step by step.

1. Take a deep breath
2. While air goes through, tighten your throat to make a type of epiglottal flap
3. During that, you mouth quickly "ooooooooo-eeeeeeeee" to raise the pitch

Have fun with it

Vocal tips and a Random Video

So, for those who are planning to do any type of speech or singing, I was told by a voice teacher that drinking any type of dairy is bad. The dairy contains chemicals that can create a sticky film over the epiglottis (the area where the nose and mouth connect) to hinder any air to blow over the vocal chords. I have to be very careful when I do performances, other wise I get a hocka loogie.

Altercations to Voice Nuh-uh!!

The other night, I discovered that some voice actors have to do physical things to their voice for the results they want.  For example, Tom Kenny (Spongebob) when doing the laugh would pinch his throat and wiggle it.  Just think of some other ways you can alter your voice and send in some.

Fall Break Shake Up and Video (click here)

So this week, I, in a way, got to see what a voice acting workshop was like. Mostly consisting of shorts explanations on how to use the mike positions and who all takes part in the making of a demo. It was quite interesting, hopefully someday I will take part in that stuff later after college.

If y'all wanna see something awesome check out this video of a recording for a popular show.

Umbilical Brothers

Yo, y'all! When it came to voice acting it doesn't just limit to commercials and animations, sometimes you can use it in sound effects for everyday activities. I put a link to my favorite comedy duo that led me to be an entertainer. Also a video of myself to say I did one.

Deepen your voice, is that a choice

I found an advertisement for a throat spray that helps you deepen your voice. That's interesting, but kind of sketchy. I wonder how many kinds of Vicks products they had to melt together to come up with this product. I think it has a placebo effect. I notice when I try to talk in any kind of voice, it takes me at least a week to conform to a certain type of voice I'm mimicking. This product I think just let's the person want to talk in a low voice which eventually becomes the person's default voice. What do y'all think?

The Don is Gone!

I was recently looking at the news and found that Don LaFontaine died last Monday of 68 at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The "Don" as some call him was the announcer who popularised the phrase, "In a world" for movie trailers. It's sad that such a cool guy will not be making any more trailers. He was my inspiration to become a voice actor and I hope to be a success much like him.

Favorite Cartoon Voice

I consider Mel Blanc the greatest voice actor.  His wide variety of voice ranges from squeaky mice to grunting gangsters.  The crazy, over exaggerated characters are my specialty, so I'm more drawn to those kind.
